ALERT: If you haven't heard about the New Zealand Mud Snail problem please go to the DFG site http://www.dfg.ca.gov/news/news04/04001.html. This is a real problem and getting worse. Everyone needs to be aware of this and needs to take the necessary action to prevent the spread of the mudsnail. Avoiding wading is the first recommemdation. If you must wade, freezing your wading gear for up to 6 hours is the easiest action. Your boots are the most likely carrier due to the areas where the snails can hide.

FISHING. Regular season now open in Inyo and Mono Counties. Thunderstorms are cropping up in a number of areas. Be aware of lightning. Fishing has been good in most areas. The Lower Owens is at 200 cfs which makes for very good fishing. Should be seeing some very good caddis hatches. Unusual for flows to be this low this time of year. DWP could raise them at any time. Fishing on Hot Creek and the Upper Owens is very good. Having some excellent hatches. We fished the Upper Owens last weekend and had good results; see Fish Report. The Kern River is starting to settle down. The East Walker is fishing very well but getting a lot of pressure. Our all year round waters include the Lower Owens River, Upper Owens River, Hot Creek, East Walker, Pleasant Valley Reservoir, Haiwee Reservoir, and the main Kern River. LADWP has closed Haiwee Reservoir to public access due to possible terrorist attacks. The South Fork of the Kern and Fish Creek are now open. The South Fork is not being stocked this year. SATURDAY SESSIONS. We try to hold informal Saturday Morning gatherings, depending on other scheduled events. At these gatherings we tie flies, talk fishing, work on problems (casting, knots),etc. These sessions start at 9 am and all are welcome. They are held at the Aguabonita Flyfishers "Club House", 145B Panamint. If you would like to be on the calling list send us your e-mail address. Send it to hisifly@iwvisp.com. Two are scheduled in May; on the 9th and the 30th.
